Enough

I’ve been her before —
The bumbling fumbling fool
Whose lips are sewn shut
And once was enough —
I know how this ends and I’m prepared to give up
Before you render me useless,
Sift through my soul, take all the gold
And leave the rest to rust.
I’ve been us before, planted my trust
In soil infertile ’til dirt caked on my skin
I’ve done this already and I know I won’t win.
